Work Experience with AVSSP

Towards the end of the school year we welcome a handful of selected students to come and do their work experience with us. Volunteering with AVSSP provides a unique opportunity to gain expertise in a variety of areas within a sporting environment. Students are thrown in the mix of the busiest, yet most exciting, term of the school year and help us run events such as Tough Runners and Ozzy Days as well as working with our coaches and assisting them during their lessons. To have the chance to broaden your knowledge base and improve your employability skills, contact info@avssp.co.uk to volunteer.

This is what our previous work experience candidates got up to during their time with us:

” I was a Gold Leader during my time at Heanor Gate meaning I was involved with a lot of AVSSP’s competitions. Doing my work experience with them helped me decide what career path I wanted to take, I have since completed a degree in sports education and special and inclusive education as a joint honours. I am now a Primary PE & School Sport Specialist and SEND & Inclusion Lead for AVSSP and have been since that year.”

“I did work experience with AVSSP when I was in year 10 for a week, shadowing different coaches both in infant and junior schools. I was interested to do work experience with AVSSP because I was doing level 1&2 BTEC Sport GCSE at school and wanted more experience In school deliveries. I enjoyed being with 2 different coaches throughout the week, because I was able to see how they taught children differently. I now work full time for AVSSP as a PE & School Sport Activator.”

“I was a sports leader during my time at Heanor Gate Spencer Academy and often volunteered with AVSSP. I chose to do my work experience with them because i was interested in the sporting industry and liked AVSSP’s approach to delivery. During my time at AVSSP I assisted with the set up and delivery of Tough Runners, World Cup events and day to day lessons with coaches. I worked for AVSSP for two years as a PE & School Sport Activator.”

“During work experience with AVSSP I visited multiple different schools and helped to engage younger people in physical activity. I got stuck into a variety of entertaining activities and AVSSP staff encouraged me to motivate children through different obstacle courses and events. The people that I worked with at AVSSP were always nice and I overall had a really great time with them.”

“I chose AVSSP for work experience because during my time at my own primary school I remember having the company do my PE lessons and I thoroughly enjoyed them. While working with AVSSP I did a range of different lessons, including regular PE lessons and ‘wet and wild’ activities. I also got the opportunity to work with children of all ages from 5-11 which was challenging but interesting. What I enjoyed the most was being able to genuinely partake and help in the lessons rather than just watching.”
