Keynote Speaker

Mel has competed at international level for GB for 12 years, after discovering archery from a beginners session with her local Girl Guide group.
Just 18 months after taking up the sport, Mel was representing her local county, and was spotted by the GB Disabled Team manager, which led to her competing and winning in her first international medal for GB in 2002.
In 2003, Mel was the first disabled archer in Europe to represent GB on the able bodied team, but during competition, Mel was struck down with Lyme Disease. This left Mel fighting for her life, and the effects of this illness included paraplegia and sight loss in one eye.
Doctors told Mel she would never compete again, but perseverance, dedication, determination and a newly designed technique and way of shooting not only saw Mel compete again, but just 2 years later, in 2005 she represented her country and won the Para World Championships!
During her distinguished career, Mel has won Club, County, Regional, National, European and World Championships and holds many World Records.
In 2008 Mel represented GB at the Paralympic Games, where she won a bronze medal, and equalled the Paralympic record in her discipline. At London 2012, Mel finished one better, adding a silver medal to her collection
