Amber Valley School Sport Partnership CIO are delighted to be an accredited Leadership Skills Foundation Qualification Centre.

As one of only two nationally recognised Professional Learning Qualification Centres in Derbyshire, AVSSP are entrusted to deliver high quality, developmental courses including the Level 5 PE Specialism qualification & the Level 3 certificate in PE delivery.

The centres lead tutor has well over a decade of experience in planning, delivering and evaluating PE and School Sport as well as holding a further education teaching qualification.

All of our courses are accredited by the Association for PE (AfPE) and the Leadership Skills Foundation (formally Sports Leaders UK)

The course is suitable Teachers or Teaching Assistants with a responsibility for PE & School Sport and aims to increase confidence and competence in planning, delivering and evaluating the PE & School Sport curriculum.

The qualification is an ideal opportunity for your PE coordinator or member of staff with responsibility for PE to receive high quality training in how to enhance your PE curriculum in school looking at the following areas:

  • Understanding primary school physical education
  • Principles of pedagogy in primary school physical education
  • Planning for continuity and progression in primary school physical education
  • Using assessment to impact on learning and progress in primary school physical education
  • Teaching primary school physical education

This course represents an impactful and sustainable use of this year’s PE & Sport Premium funding that can really improve the standard of Physical Education and School Sport within your school.

We aim to deliver one Level 5 course in line with the academic year, course dates for 2024/25 are as follows:

Ensuring that students receive high-quality PE provision has the potential to support them in creating a life-long understanding and appreciation of all the benefits that sport and physical activity can offer them. To give every student this opportunity, we believe it is important to give those who offer PE the learning and skills they need to give them the confidence to deliver this high-quality level of PE provision.

Delegates who complete the Level 3 Certificate will develop the skills and confidence to support the delivery of PESSPA through planning, delivering and reviewing high quality programmes.

By undertaking the Level 3 Certificate, you will be able to:

  • understand schools and the principles of teaching PESSPA; 
  • safeguard children and young people in PESSPA; 
  • maintain health and safety of pupils in PESSPA; 
  • support children to develop through PESSPA, relative to their expected development; 
  • advocate the benefits of PESSPA for pupils; 
  • implement diversity and inclusion principles in PESSPA; 
  • support assessment for learning in PE; 
  • plan, deliver and review a PESSPA unit of learning.

Candidates who successfully complete the Level 5 PE Specialism qualification who also hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) are eligible to complete the Level 6 Award in PE Subject Leadership

The Level 6 Award in Primary School Physical Education Subject Leadership aims to improve the overall delivery of the physical education curriculum within primary schools. The aim of this qualification is to upskill primary school teachers to enable them to lead the delivering of the primary school physical education curriculum.  

On successful completion of the Level 6 Award, delegates will be able to take subject leadership within primary school physical education teaching and deliver sustainable high quality primary school physical education.
